Patch 1.5 released...
Okay, Akella and Playlogic seem to have some issues with patches. Hot on the heels of 1.43, a new patch 1.5 has been released. Considering that this patch is -not- compatible with 1.43 (but is with 1.42 and below) it seems reasonable to assume that they found some problems in 1.43 that needed to be adressed in a hurry.
You can download the patch or read the patch notes. Here's a short rundown of the patch changes:
Specific to patch 1.5
1. Final updates made to FMOD sound system library to polish final game performance and reduce occurrences of instability.
2. Final fixes to game interfaces (shipyard, capture ship, ships speak, etc.).
3. Items/Quest Generation updated to be more efficient (algorithm reworked).
4. Colony Capture interface was fully redesigned for more usability.
5. Scripts opened for modding.
6. Save game compatibility updated.

Patch 1.43 released!
Some of us were ready to believe that this day would never come. But we were proven wrong! Playlogic has just released the 1.43 patch for AoP and you can download it here.
And the list of fixes:

Still no patch 1.43...
Remember how we were promised a new patch by October 27th? It's 3 weeks later and there's still nothing. The last time a PlayLogic official mentioned the patch was November 2nd when Claraluna posted:
Hi Zmidponk,
We are sorry to disappoint you. I'm afraid the patch simply isn't ready for release yet. There is a serious flaw in the AI behavior introduced as an indirect result of some of the fixes made, and this has to be addressed before release. This is why we spend such a substantial amount of time testing it. In an effort to ensure the quality of the second patch is up to standards you expect, I am sure you understand we would not want to rush the release. I was careful to estimate the release date subject to successful testing as this type of delay is not uncommon. I am keeping you up to date with information as I have it, but continued work and testing takes time and often the results are not conclusive until the end of each cycle.
I can say that all test efforts up until now have proven that the patch has improved stability much more substantially than previous versions, and that specific gameplay issues noted on this forum have been addressed.
Cheers,
Claraluna.
My first reaction was 'Oi! Age of Pirates has intelligence?' but of course we all know that it does... at least we think it has. :)
Seriously. I'm starting to wonder if we'll ever see a patch. We'll send off an email to PlayLogic, see if they're willing to shed some light on this...
*** update ***
Word from Playlogic is that the patch is still being worked on but they're not done yet. All they were able to say is "It can't be long now". Obviously that doesn't help us much, but at least they haven't abandoned the patch.

The Patch IS out!
The 1.42 patch to Age of Pirates: Caribbean Tales is out!
Personally I spent the best part of the last few days keeping my eye out for this, but it was Rupertlittlebear on our forums who caught the scent and brought us the happy news!
You can download the patch here:
Playlogic site

1. The FMOD sound system library has been updated to increase stability and improve general game performance.
2. Bug fixing has been performed across the more prominent gameplay issues.
3. Compatibility with ATI Radeon graphics driver versions has been expanded.
4. Texturing has been added to the island vegetation, with improved Level of Detail.

Patch release date update
Ok, the patch has been finished and is currently in testing. At the moment, Playlogic hopes to release it on or by next Monday. A quote from Claraluna:
Thanks all for your patience. The patch has been finished and it's now in test, and so presuming all goes well, we would hope post this for download by next Monday 2-Oct at the latest.

Updates promised in the upcoming patch 1.42
A list of fixes in the upcoming AoP:CT patch has now been released. The translation from Russian to English is still relatively bad, but you can hopefully make out the major bits:
1. The sound management will be updated.
2. Officers will receive more experience (1/5th of player experience instead of 1/10th)
3. The ship capture screen will be updated.
4. Lots of bug fixes.
5. The sea AI will be changed a little.
6. The appearance of the islands will be improved.
7. The bug of not being able to avoid a hostile encounter is fixed
8. The mistake of occurrence of smugglers with заполнеными holds is corrected.
9. The direction of the wind when moving between the global map and the 3D map will be kept (instead of changing haphazardly).
10. The base chance of cannon explosions will be reduced.
11. A bug in the shipyard where you (apparently) could buy a new ship even without free officers, will be fixed.
12. Now before the first attempt to kill game does (makes) the leader of pirates автосэйв.
13. A bug in the shipyard is corrected, allowing to exchange the ship [with квестовым the character].
14. Radeon 9200 video card is now also supported (no more crashes).
Well, not everything is completely clear, but the things that are will surely be welcome.

Arrr! It is "Talk Like a Pirate Day"
It is time to annoy your colleagues and drive your spouse insane.
From the 'official' Talk Like a Pirate Day website:
Tuesday September 19th 2006 is Talk Like a Pirate Day! Talk Like a Pirate Day only comes once a year (on September 19th), this year it falls on a Tuesday. If you’re not ready yet, you can learn more about this international holiday on the About TLAPD page or practice some phrases from the PiratePhrases page. After all, you don’t want to be handed the BlackSpot when the holiday is over!

New graphics for the islands!
More news have been spread about the contents of the upcoming patch! GreyAngel (the lead designer of AoP) has revealed two screenshots that show the new graphics for the Caribbean islands, showing more details than what we've seen thus far. This seems like a definite bonus to the graphics side of the game and with all the bug fixes that we'll hopefully also be getting, this patch really seems to be something to look forward to! ![]()

New ship capture screen revealed!
The upcoming patch will also introduce a new ship capture interface that seems to be a lot better than the original - although I still cannot see how you can choose which ship in your fleet to replace (if you want to) with the newly captured ship, there is now the chance to actually discard goods to make more room for the stuff that you want to keep! ![]()
